Save New Jersey's Stoves

Save New Jersey's Stoves
The Issue
The NJBPU is trying to ban gas stoves in new construction and renovations via changes to the Universal Construction Code (UCC).
!["The UCC also includes the New Jersey Rehabilitation (Rehab) Building Subcode, a [highlight] building code [end highlight] that applies when there is a [highlight] repair, renovation, alteration, reconstruction, change of use, or addition to an existing building...this Roadmap is recommending electrification amendments to the entire Subcode.[end highlight]" "New Jersey Zero Energy Buildings Roadmap" Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships NJBPU Consultant](https://assets.change.org/fe/sap-rich-media-user-uploads/2023/05/25/dc1be0c5-3f2c-44e8-b762-9e9a236178f5.jpeg)
This is a back-door route that does not need approval of the NJ Assembly or Senate.
!["The Rehab Subcode was developed and is updated by the State, meaning that it is not a national model code. The Rehab Subcode may be [highlight] updated administratively at any time. [end highlight]" "New Jersey Zero Energy Buildings Roadmap" Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnership](https://assets.change.org/fe/sap-rich-media-user-uploads/2023/05/25/c253d5b4-d41d-4dc8-bf20-3c98a62ce26e.jpeg)
This is not some distant goal, these changes to the building code are planned for this year

Here are the facts:
- 69% of New Jerseyans cook with gas stoves
- Many New Jerseyans prefer cooking with gas
- Electric stoves will not work during blackouts
- Any health impacts of gas stoves can be easily mitigated with proper ventilation
We are not against electric stoves, we are against taking away consumer choice. If you prefer cooking with gas, you should be allowed to renovate your kitchen and install a nice new gas stove. You should be able to buy a new home with a gas stove.
Sign this petition to send a clear message to the NJBPU that you want to keep cooking with gas.
