Save New Baltimore, Michigan Wetlands from Construction

The Issue

This petition is in regards to stopping a construction project for detached condos on a wetlands conservation easement in New Baltimore, Michigan. (Parcel#06-15-07-301-036 and Parcel# 06-15-07-301-003) The project is called Willow Creek Phase 2 and the owner of this land has previously illegally cleared wetlands without a permit. This project has been in the works since approximately 1995, has the same project engineer currently that caused past flooding, and has caused fear for the surrounding residents because of the potential for disaster to surrounding wetlands and their homes.

This project to build on these wetlands has been going on for quite some time and has been stopped by one reason or another over the years due to expired permits, revised site plans and discrepancies over where the conservation easement actually is according to DEQ/EGLE vs the builder and his project engineer. The city and DNR were not much help in the past until Channel 4 News came out and did a story about the flooding. The developer was fined and made to replace some wetlands he destroyed but we don't really know if he followed through with that commitment because it appears no one is holding anyone accountable for what goes on with this land.

Please sign this petition to protect our wetlands and our residents from flooding if this new construction is approved to move forward. It is currently in review to be approved so we have to act quickly and be heard so that no wetland is disturbed in this area.
