The Issue

North Central Texas College to shutter Flower Mound campus

North Central Texas College's Board of Regents has voted to close the Flower Mound campus by August 31, 2027, ending 16 years of classes in southern Denton County.

Many of us learned about this from the news, not from NCTC. A decision this important to our education, commutes, jobs, and families deserves direct communication and real student input.

For 16 years, the Flower Mound campus has given students an affordable, close-to-home place to learn. For many of us, moving to Denton, Corinth, or Champions Circle means longer drives, higher gas costs, and conflicts with work and childcare. Some students may not be able to continue at all.

We respectfully ask NCTC to:

  1. Pause the closure plan until students have had a real chance to give input.
  2. Formally notify every Flower Mound student and hold an open forum on campus.
  3. Explore alternatives to full closure, such as a smaller class schedule, sharing or leasing part of the building while keeping classes, or a partnership with the Town of Flower Mound.
  4. Guarantee that no current student is prevented from finishing their program because of the closure.

We understand NCTC faces real financial challenges. We want to be part of the solution, not left out of it.

Why this matters to me: The Flower Mound campus has become more than a school. It is a home and a community for many students, especially first-generation and immigrant students who found a welcoming place to learn close to where they live.

For many of these students, the other campuses are not a real option. They are too far away, and many students have no reliable way to get there. Right now, many families already live with serious fear and uncertainty every day. Asking them to travel much farther to an unfamiliar campus adds even more stress and risk, and some will simply have to stop their education.

Online classes are not enough. In-person learning at Flower Mound supports both our education and our wellbeing, and losing it would leave many students behind.

I also worry about our professors and staff. Some of them have been part of this campus for all 16 years, and now they are left in limbo, not knowing what their future holds. They deserve better, and so do we.

It is not fair to leave students and faculty out of this decision. We are asking for a seat at the table.

Please sign and share with other NCTC students, alumni, and Flower Mound neighbors.
