I purchased my home in 1990 with an established 1 car driveway in place and a low curb also existing.  The city installed high curb in front of my driveway just last week stating my driveway is illegal with NO prior notice once so ever. I have been blindsided. Most of my phone calls went unanswered. Finally I was referred to Christian in Zoning at the City Permit Office. He has been helpful but his higher ups have not. I also had Marty  Nave, Councilor-1st-District to come take a look and he agreed I should be able to keep my Driveway. Especially given my health condition. I have attached numerous photos of homes with similar specifications get to keep their driveway. 

I have had two fires over the years 1 in the downstairs kitchen oven maybe 29 years ago and the other in a wall outlet in the upstairs bedroom outlet. Both fires were put out extremely fast by firefighters with very little damage. All with one  car in the driveway. 
I want to know what I have to do to keep my Driveway. How many feet are required? Do I need to remove all or part of my porch? Do I need to change the front access? The more questions I asks the less I get answered. The city keeps throwing forms at me to fill out and says don’t bother because you will still be denied. WHY?? Why is it ok for some residents and not me? I keep my home well maintained while the neighborhood around me is quickly sliding into disrepair with trash in the streets and addicts in the boarded up homes and homeless people on most corners. It really is quite an eyesore. But that’s besides the point. I just want to keep my driveway and stop getting the run around from the city with a little prejudice thrown in. I am an American citizen. So were my parents. My husband is an American citizen, he was born abroad in Southeast Asia and immigrated in1982. So I have a voice record message telling me, “when you come to America you need to follow our rules and codes”. Ok. But I WAS BORN IN THE USA. Stueben   county, City of Hornell in the state of New York on August 17, 1968 It’s ignorant to assume my ethnicity based on my name.

Now is the time to act before winter sets in. I won’t be able to go to treatment (bi-monthly) or the pharmacy if my car is plowed in on the street. Not to mention all the sliding cars that might dent my car because much of my neighborhood drives on bald tires. My street is also Secondary plow right. 

i am at my wits end!!! Please Please Please just let me keep my driveway.
