PLEASE SHARE TO SPREAD AWARENESS! My baby horse, Wonder, was injured by the stablehands I trusted with her welfare. Wonder was in training to become a therapy horse for individuals with autism. They violently lassoed her to the ground, causing a deep laceration on her back leg. She was then left in a stall with no bedding, covered in feces and subsequently developed an infection which became systemic. She is in an animal hospital and may die. 

Lassoing is a cruel and outdated practice that fails to treat animals with kindness and respect. The goal is to throw a rope with a loop on one end around an animal’s neck or legs. This can cause the animal to be terribly afraid. A scared horse may attempt to run away or fight back — they go into “fight or flight” mode. Even the sweetest horse may become afraid. They don’t understand what is happening to them. 

There are gentler alternatives to lassoing, using cues they can understand to guide their movement. It takes time and patience — it’s not quick and easy. 

Every animal deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. Every animal deserves to be happy and healthy, kept in a clean environment, and treated well. Animals are innocent; they didn’t do anything wrong. 

The stable denies any accountability for what happened to Wonder. We have to end the practice of aggressive lassoing, now. If you love animals, if you love horses, please share this message. Aggressive lassoing is dangerous, disrespectful, and harmful to animals! It activates their fight or flight response, putting them in a state of absolute fear. We must spread awareness of how inhumane these practices really are. 

Further, we must advocate for horses to be kept in clean stalls with proper bedding! When other stables came to pick up my other horses from the stable, they were horrified by the condition horses were being kept in.
