The Denmark shire council is currently calling on public comment to the development of a complex series of downhill mountain bike trails through 68 hectares of the Mount Hallowell reserve. A flora and fauna study has not yet been done for this new project area. If this concept plan is voted in, it will be the beginning of the end of Mount Hallowell Class-A nature reserve.

Mountain bike trails will cause: 
- Spread of dieback 
- Destruction of vegetation
- Disturbance of native animals 
- Erosion of trails
- More unsanctioned trails 
- Invasion of feral animals 
- Future potential access roads to the top for access and to evacuate casualties 
- Litter and fire. (Mount Hallowell has not burned since 1937)
