Contrary to recent media reports quoting a bogus analysis posted on X (Twitter) and assertions from Abbie Kamin that most comments to her office are in favor of the project, the truth is that most people in Houston do NOT support this project. And that is based on the TIRZ’s own summary of all the public commentary they received on the project from Sept thru Nov 2023 after it finally became publicly known how many mature trees would be removed to make room for the ten-foot-wide concrete sidewalks.
You can read all of the publicly submitted comments (284 opposed, 17 in favor) on the TIRZ website at https://montrosehtx.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Montrose-Boulevard-Improvements-Project-Complete-Comment-Response-Matrix.pdf
Meanwhile, the number of petition signers just keeps increasing as more and more people learn about this overly complex, wasteful project that will kill MANY mature trees if allowed to move forward. OUR PETITION NOW HAS REACHED 8028 SIGNATURES!
More good news:
- The Mayor still has phase 1 of the project on hold while the city does a much needed planning review.
- The TIRZ has withdrawn their ~$50M phase 2 funding request from consideration at this time, at least for this year.
But it’s not over yet! The TIRZ and Abbie Kamin are fighting hard to move forward with the current plan that takes down all the trees on the sides of Montrose Blvd and puts in 10-foot-wide concrete sidewalks. Their latest scare tactic is to say it’s all about severe drainage problems in Montrose. The online propaganda pics of the boulevard ponding where drains are just clogged with trash would be laughable if the media wasn’t falling for them as “proof” of extreme flooding danger.
Come learn the truth at our Informational Open House on Tuesday May 14 from 6:30-8:30pm at the Montrose Center at 401 Branard, Room 106.
Refreshments, factual info (with sources!) and informed civil dialogue will be on offer. We will also be giving away burr oak seedlings as well as a couple of larger trees.
Hope to see you there!
