Save Montrose Live Oaks is growing in numbers and determination. Here’s a quick update and a call to action for important upcoming dates.
Update from the Dec 18 TIRZ Board meeting:
There were over 30 people who showed up to speak in support of saving the Montrose Blvd trees at the December Montrose TIRZ board meeting. We shared with the TIRZ that the petition is now at over 7000 signatures and yet, despite their promises to listen to the community, they have so far made zero changes to their plans to save any trees - the plan remains unchanged from the 9/18 meeting where the planned tree loss was first disclosed. 57 trees will go down in Phase 1. They will not commit to any changes to their design as they move south. They intend to keep with the sidewalk design, as-is, at least to Hawthorne. This would mean dozens of even older and more substantial live oak trees will come down.
The good news is that the outpouring of public opposition is working! They have delayed the start of Phase 1 to end of March or April. This gives us time to seek more alternatives and push for a tree-saving design. We MUST keep up the pressure.
Please plan to attend the next TIRZ Board Meeting on Monday, January 22 6:30pm @ The Montrose Center at 401 Branard.
Please note that this date was verbally mentioned at the last board meeting (moved from Jan 15 to avoid MLK Day), but as of today still does not show on the TIRZ website. Everyone should register for notifications from the TIRZ on their website to get their updates about meetings. www.montrosehtx.org
