Our protest walk brought out 100+ people, news media from KHOU, KTRK, KPFT and three city council members (Kamin, Alcorn, Robinson). We definitely have their attention! There was also a small counter protest from parents who believe the Phase 1 plan will improve safety for children who walk to school. But can’t we protect kids AND preserve the trees? Be sure to go to www.savemontroseliveoaks.com and get on our mailer list for critical updates.
If you've seen the 9/30 statement issued from Montrose TIRZ, please be sure to read it CAREFULLY and apply critical thinking. Here's the bottom line in terms of what's changed: They previously said 61 trees destroyed in phase 1 (50 city-protected, 11 others). They now say it's 57 trees (53 city-protected and 4 others). There are MANY contradictory statements in the report. According to their own report, the executive summary statement that "No healthy mature live oak trees will be removed or replaced." is not true. Which part of the report should we believe? We'll deliver a report very soon that spells out the contradictions and details our concerns and questions that remain unchanged.
Meanwhile, there’s no time to rest!
These are the three most important actions to take.
