McKean High School has been a cornerstone of our community in Wilmington, Delaware for decades. Its proposed closure and the plan to bus our students to different feeder schools not only disrupts the educational journey of hundreds of students but also threatens the identity and community spirit of our area. 

The administration has suggested shutting down McKean High School and dispersing our children to different schools as a cost-saving measure. However, it overlooks the tremendous value that our school offers beyond mere academics. McKean High School is not just an educational institution; it is a community hub that fosters friendships, traditions, and lifelong memories. Disbanding our school means severing the strong community bonds that have been forged over years and generations.

Furthermore, closing the school's athletic department would deprive our students of crucial opportunities to develop teamwork, leadership, and discipline—skills that are vital for their growth into well-rounded adults. Extracurricular activities, especially sports, play an essential role in a student's educational experience, and dismantling this department would be a significant disservice to our youth.
