The number has been steadily rising as our campaign has touched more people in the community through posters, media and the unwavering support from locals who care about their public spaces. Soon we intend to submit the Save McIvor Reserve Petition to the Maribyrnong City Council for discussion and formal consideration. There are whispers that the MCC is considering the acquisition of an alternate site for the stadium, which I want to remind you, is a category of building that the Council's own Open Space guideline states should not be built on open space and certainly not parkland in a city with an alarming shortage of shrub and tree cover. I'm sure that any re-evaluation of the decision to build an inappropriate structure on existing well-used public assets at McIvor is in no small part due to the loud objections from this community. I know I have asked before, but if you have a neighbour or a friend or family member who has not signed the petition, and they care about the future of green open space in our increasingly congested community, please ask them to sign and get us to the 2000 signature goal! So, what happens next? Well, the MCC will be releasing it's draft masterplan for McIvor next month and they will be asking your opinion. Typically if a council get 30 or 40 responses they would be thrilled. We would like them to receive hundreds of responses, making it very clear that no stadium should be build on public parkland or remove the amenity of existing community assets! Please check the link below and submit your feedback when the time comes. I will let you know when the draft masterplan is available for public feedback. Who knows, if we keep up the pressure, perhaps it won't even feature a stadium and we can focus on making our existing parkland the best it can be! Thanks for your ongoing support.
