Save Manville Dam

Save Manville Dam
The Issue
Nestled in our humble town lies an important piece of history, an empty lot on which the Manville dam used to run, powering the Manville-jenkins mil as far back as 1868. Its important past is not the only thing it carries, as it currently serves as a cherished park and a scenic waterfall, offering solace and joy to our townsfolk. The mill may have burnt down in 1955, but the Dam remained, becoming a wonderful part of our everyday lives. As a parent, I have watched my children play and fish here, weaving countless memories of laughter and contentment.
However, our Manville Dam town park is under threat. New England Hydropower Co. has begun permit procedures (P-15370) to claim our two-acre park. Their plans? To erect turbines and convert this historic site into a 'hydro facility', stripping away its beauty and serenity that we grew to love. While progress and growth are essential, they should never come at the expense of our community's shared history, culture, and open spaces where memories are made and wildlife thrive.
We oppose this move and urge relevant authorities to reconsider this permit. Preserve our dam and the precious park it fosters. Don't let our children's laughter be drowned out by the hum of turbines. Don't trade our cherished memories for a hydro facility.
The homes to wildlife and the fun and love will be gone here.
Take action now, sign this petition, and let us aim to protect our park and the Manville Dam – a symbol of two town's rich history
