Hey everyone,

Yesturday I unfortunately learned that this is not the only major development proposed for Maleny which is aimed at furthering the gentrification of our home.

Additional developments are also planned to expand the area surrounding the golf course in North Maleny. Once again, this development is aimed at turning Maleny into something artificial and commercial - another shiny new suburb of the sunshine coast. It exists only to serve the rich and privileged while ignoring the real issues the community has such as a lack of affordable housing.

There is hope however, as the new development plan is still in the "community engagement" phase. This means that we have an opportunity to oppose it.

You can view the new development proposal and complete the community engagement survey here:
https://haveyoursay.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/maleny-district-park

I strongly encourage everyone to complete this survey and oppose this development. It's never been more important to protect this area and let The Sunshine Coast Council know that we do not want further gentrification.

There is also an upcoming public session everyone can attend, here are the details:
Pop into the 'Meet in the Street' Pop-Up Session: Come along on Saturday, 24 May (9am - 1pm) and chat to the project team at Queensland Country Bank, 28 Maple Street, Maleny.

I really encourage everyone to come along to this session and help to put a stop to this. We can't let The Sunshine Coast Council do whatever they want without opposition.

With regards to this petition / the streetscape project -

Despite multiple emails to The Sunshine Coast Council and Mayor, all communication regarding this petition has ceased. I am now getting no response at all. Clearly, they are choosing to proceed with this development and simply ignore all communication / disregard this petition entirely.

As the number of signatures on this petition outweighs the support they recieved during the community engagement phase - this is feeling a lot less like democracy and a lot more like dictatorship.

I strongly urge everyone to contact The Sunshine Coast Council and Mayor directly either via phone or email to protest these new developments.

They cannot ignore us forever and are relying on us simply giving up and falling silent.
