Firstly I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone that has signed and shared this petition over the past week or so! This level of community support is really amazing and deeply moving. Together we can stop this development from happening.

The current list of signatures has been sent to The Sunshine Coast Council and Mayor this morning. This will be sent again in another week or so as the number continues to increase. So please keep signing and sharing!

In the meantime, it would be a huge help if you could could spare a few minutes and reach out to the council / mayor directly via email. This is a chance to have your say and voice your concerns regarding this development.

Dear Mayor Rosanna Natoli / Sunshine Coast Council,

I am writing this email to strongly oppose the "Maleny Placemaking and Streetscape Maple Street Project".

This development threatens to destroy the charm, character and culture of Maleny. This aims to gentrify the main street and change it into something extremely commercial, artificial and generic. It is clear that this is not for the benefit of our community.

Community engagement for this development has been completely inadequate. Phase 2 only surveyed 182 people, which is less than 1% of the population of Maleny and surrounding areas.

This is doing nothing to address the real issues our community has such as; almost no affordable housing, homelessness, very few activities for youth, skate park upgrades, a lack of local art initiatives, live music needs to be allowed again at Maleny Lane and traffic congestion just to name a few.

This rampant gentrification of Maleny will only worsen the local housing crisis, generate more unwanted tourism, increase traffic congestion and further increase our extremely high cost of living.

Please have some respect for our culture, history and the needs of this community. Put a stop to the "Maleny Placemaking and Streetscape Maple Street Project" immediately.

I strongly do not support this development and I will not be voting for your party in the next federal election.
