Save Louie

Save Louie
The Issue
Help me save my best friend! This is a long read and I will do my best to be quick and to the point. My six year old dog is being accused of biting my next door neighbor. Now before you form an opinion let me introduce my dog Louie. He is an intelligent, sensitive, brilliant dog. He has undergone behavioral training (chasing cars) with a professional trainer. He has no history of violence and is not a vicious dog. He has been raised with children and is an absolute love bug. He has a lot of energy and we have always let him run it off on a 30+ acre farm. Up until recently, Louie has never met an enemy. He is friendly and warm and loves everyone (including his friends at Luna Veterinary clinic). However, my neighbors have been caught yelling and screaming at him out of fear. Don’t get me wrong. He looks intimidating due to his breed and stocky build. On January 16th I heard Louie barking and started walking his direction. He was barking at the neighbor putting trash in his toter. I heard the neighbor yelling at him while I’m trying to call him back. My neighbor went to the other side of his car and screamed “he bit me”! The neighbor got in his vehicle and went about his day. Later that I received a call from the Caldwell county sheriff’s office and told my neighbor was pressing charges. The police report stated that there was a “minor” dog bite. I never saw photo evidence and no medical attention was sought. I can’t go into any more details than that. So far I’ve shared facts and now I’ll share my opinion. Louie has never shown aggression to anyone but I know a scared dog could bite. Why is he so scared of my neighbor? I feel he has hurt or threatened Louie in some capacity. Something has had to of happened for him to react to my neighbor like this. ( if he actually did? I didn’t see it happen and I was there). Now I’m left with few options if they label him viscous. 1. Euthanasia 2. Life in a concrete kennel only leaving it for veterinary visits and be muzzled. 3. Rehome my loved family member. I am willing to compromise and only let him out on leashes and even invisible fences. That’s not good enough for them. I have been informed that they want my dog “Gone”. Gone? They want his life ended for a “minor” bite. (If there was a bite?). This dog has been therapeutic to my veteran husband, and myself a domestic violence survivor. He has been extremely therapeutic to a 10 year old little boy who was viciously mauled by three dogs, life flight to Vanderbilt, multiple reconstructive surgery, years of therapy and millions in medical bills. Louie has helped him realize not all muscular dogs are evil. This dog is so good I wonder if I deserve him. If you’ve read this far I need help. What can I do? I have lived most my life peacefully on this farm. I need to keep him living here peacefully also. I am seeking all the resources I can get. If you know me, have met Louie, or can put yourself in my shoes, please make a comment. Call the Caldwell county attorney’s office, talk some sense into my neighbor, write a letter in support. This is more than a dog. He’s our family.
