Loki, a sweet dog who has brought joy and companionship to many, now faces an uncertain future simply because of an unfortunate incident. His quarantine ends just two days before Christmas, a time when families come together in love and joy. A person even drove several kilometers to adopt him. Unfortunately, a child ran up to Loki in the shelter and squeezed him too hard, causing him to react with a Level 3 bite—not out of aggression, but out of self-defense. This happened the same day the adopter arrived, putting the adoption on hold. Loki doesn't seem to have a history of biting before this, and like any living creature, he deserves a second chance.

Euthanizing Loki would be a tragic end to a situation that could be resolved with understanding and care. During his ten-day quarantine, authorities have the window to explore alternative outcomes that benefit both Loki and potential adopters. Loki's way of communicating where he feels safe should be seen as an opportunity to place him in the perfect environment where he can thrive. With the help of compassionate foster care, Loki can be rehomed where the family dynamics suit his temperament.
Advertising Loki as 'teen friendly' can ensure he finds himself in a household without small children, where he might feel more at ease. Using social media and community networks, we can find a temporary foster or even a permanent home for Loki. This breed of proactive engagement ensures that Loki is not penalized to the point of ending his life.
According to the ASPCA, approximately 3.3 million dogs enter shelters every year. Many face euthanasia due to overcrowding or incidents like Loki's. In reality, 48% of households have at least one dog, proving there is a loving home for each dog that needs one. With robust community efforts, this is attainable.
We urge animal control departments and local shelters to consider Loki's potential for a peaceful and loving home. Please sign this petition to advocate for Loki's life. Let's give him the narrative he truly deserves—a tale of redemption, learning, and love. Together, we can ensure Loki finds his forever home.
