Petition to Halt the Destruction of Lokhandwala Back Road Mangroves and Address Illegal Construction Practices

We, the undersigned, urgently call for the immediate cessation of all activities leading to the destruction of the Lokhandwala back road mangroves. These vital ecosystems are being irreversibly damaged by the dumping of debris and mud, resulting in the decimation of local flora and fauna.

Mangroves play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance. They provide habitat for diverse species, protect the coastline from erosion, and contribute to the fight against climate change by sequestering carbon. Additionally, there are growing concerns about the legality of the construction work for the Maharashtra National Law University's (MNLU) permanent campus in Versova. While the project has state approval, the continuous dumping of debris and nighttime construction activities suggest potential violations of environmental regulations and community disturbance laws. These practices necessitate a thorough investigation to ensure compliance with legal and environmental standards.

We demand:
