Hi all,
I attended the Caltrans meeting on Nov.21st. I manage to bring up the issue with the lack of k-rails on the Santa Clara side. I was told the accident is still being investigated, and once that's done then they will determine if safety measures are needed. I also spoke with Caltrans representatives Heidi Crawford and Dianna Beck. I sent the petition to both of them today.
Comments and concerns about the Highway 25 project can be sent to Dianna at dianna.beck@dot.ca.gov until December 12th. They are moving forward with widening 25 now that they have the funding. The project manager is Terry Thompson, Terry.Thompson@dot.ca.gov.
I wasn't expecting to hear from Caltrans so quickly, but I received the following email from them today:
Thank you for reaching out to Caltrans Bay Area District 4 and sharing your concerns.
The D5 Public Information Officer Heidi Crawford forwarded your email and concerns about State Route 25 which run along Santa Clara and San Benito Counties.
Caltrans is aware of the recent fatalities on State Route 25. While we do not know whether the roadway system has been a factor in causing the collisions, Caltrans District 4 and 5 will be conducting a collaborative investigation. As part of this investigation the teams will be evaluating:
· Highway physical geometrics and field conditions;
· The collision details and characteristics;
· Existing traffic controls and safety devices;
· Implementation of proven safety countermeasures and their respective operational impacts, including mitigation of ingress/egress to allow for U-turns and turning movements for the agricultural, commercial, and residential uses of the highway;
· Potential funding sources and approvals for improvement proposals; and
· Outreach and feedback with the MPO/CMAs, local political leadership, and communities.
We anticipate sharing the findings and proposed enhancements in January of 2025.
Thank you,
Pedro Quintana
