Save Lives : Help, Care, Cherished and Love Stray Animals

The Issue

Seeing stray animals on the streets is

really heartbreaking, compared to

animals who have a home to stay in, they

has owner to care for, cherish, and to

love them, while stray animals have

nothing. Stray Animals refers to

domesticated animals—most commonly cats

and dogs, which are often seen wandering

around in urban or rural areas to look

for food and shelter. Sadly, these

animals that wander around are lost,

abandoned, or have no owner to care for

them.

According to CARA Welfare Philippines

(2025), estimates show that about

100,000 to 500,000 stray cats and dogs

are added to our streets every year.

Some say there are already around 12 to

13 million strays across the country —

wandering, starving, exposed to

sickness, cruelty, and danger. For many

people, they often interpret stray

animals as dangerous because they might

bite them, which can cause rabies.

Moreover, in particular observation in San Juan

La Union, most people do not like them all because

stray animal smells stinky and look

dirty, people also hurt them just to get

them out of their place. Additionally,

stray animals do not eat clean food,

they are often seen messing with the

trash just to get something to eat and

when they eat something not edible they

often get sick or worst dying. Such

actions and acts of stray animals they

do not get the normal treatment of being

a pet. They also have emotions, perhaps,

stray animals just looking for a home— a

home where they can feel love and be

cherished like their own family.

So, everyone must care for stray animals

because they also deserve to be loved

and to feel like a normal pet. In order

to care for them, feed and provide them

with shelters, if financial will do.

However, when financial is kind of

hectic, call and ask for help from

organizations such as The Philippine Animal

Welfare Society (PAWS), Animal Kingdom

Foundation (AKF), and CARA Welfare

Philippines. Remember, stray animals

also have a life, they deserve to be

loved, cherished, and protected.
