The Issue

The Eltham Hotel is facing new sound restrictions for live entertainment due to a few neighbour complaints. These limits could mean an end to the bands, acts, and events that make the pub a cultural and community hub.

By signing this petition you are joining the community in asking that the Government conduct an independent investigation using their own sound testing resources, in consultation with a broader group of nearby neighbours, before they impose conditions that have large scale ramifications for the entire region.

The current decision to impose noise restrictions is based on findings from sound reports without any government oversight, paid for by the complainants. The community feels this is unfair and requires further investigation by governing bodies, free from any potential bias.

For those who have ever visited, heard of, or performed at the Eltham Hotel, you understand the value these events bring to our community. The pub has established itself as a key spot for local, national, and international artists, offering the Northern Rivers community access to world-class touring acts that might otherwise bypass our regional area.

The impact of the proposed sound limit transcends live music; it threatens core community events hosted at the pub, including theatre preformances, weekly trivia night, open mic nights, science at the pub, and more. The loss of amplified sound would not only be a blow to our community's culture, but would echo through the local economy, and the broader Australian music industry.

Let's acknowledge the efforts the Eltham Hotel has undertaken to address sound concerns by implementing multiple mechanisms to curb the sound impacts. We now need the community to come together to voice their support for the reversal of the sound limit and support the local that has supported the community in endless ways.

Please join us in showing the importance of music, culture, and community by signing the petition to help our much-loved pub continue to serve up cold beers and great live music.
