Save Limestone Park, help preserve this rare ecosystem with birds, animals & plants

The Issue

Limestone park is a 100 acre park in Shelby County. It is one of three tupelo swamps. It is a rare habitat with one of the largest beaver marshes and grassland plots. There are nearly 200 birds species, and over 500 species total of plants and animals. It is the home of locally rare nesting colonies of Anhingas and Tree Swallows. It is visited by Bald Eagles, Osprey, Sandhill Crane, and other species of birds.

Bird watchers and photographers come from all over to watch and photograph all the different species living here, but it is in danger. The Alabaster city has decided that part of this land would be in good use for public works. They want to build a sanitation facility on this land. This means that garbage trucks will be stored on this land. The potential for contamination is likely.

Please help me spread the word about this land. My husband and I have only lived in Alabaster for about a year and half and we have become attached to this park. I would hate to see something happen to it.

So I am coming to you as an Alabaster resident in search of other Alabaster citizens and even people all over to help spread the word about this park. They are so close to starting, we need every bit of public eye we can get! I will keep you as updated as I can. Just please sign this petition and share it! Share it with everyone! Not just Alabaster/Shelby citizens. The people from Alabaster are not the only ones who benefit from this park.

It is really going to take all of us Alabaster citizens to stop this from happening. Continue to spread the word, share this, and even continue to reach out to all who benefit from this park.
