Save life-saving departments at QEH Hospital King's Lynn

The Issue

I am writing this petition because of my immense concern following recent reports that Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in King's Lynn might face a downgrade. According to regional media, vital departments such as Accident & Emergency (A&E), Maternity, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and General Surgery are at risk of being cut due to a review that suggests operational downsizing. This potential reduction in services could have devastating consequences for our community, the staff, and most importantly, the patients who rely on these critical services every day.

For many, QEH Hospital is not just a medical facility but a lifeline. It serves thousands of people from King's Lynn, West Norfolk and the surrounding areas. The A&E department is a crucial pillar for emergency care, providing immediate and urgent services that save lives every day. Maternity services at QEH offer the specialised care and support that new and expecting mothers need, ensuring safe deliveries and healthy beginnings for our newborns. Likewise, the ICU provides intensive treatment and monitoring for critically ill patients, while General Surgery supports a wide range of surgical procedures essential for patient recovery.

If these departments were to be downgraded or relocated to distant hospitals, it would impose travel burdens on patients and families, increase waiting times, and potentially risk patient health outcomes. The implications of such a decision are vast, affecting not only health care quality but also the local economy, employment, and community well-being.

There are solutions that can prevent this downgrade without compromising patient care. Increased funding, strategic investments in infrastructure, and support from the NHS can ensure that QEH continues to function as a fully-equipped hospital. Engaging with community leaders, health professionals, and local government can advocate for maintaining all services at QEH. We must rally together to demonstrate the indispensable value of our hospital to decision-makers who must listen to the voices of the people they serve.

I urge everyone who believes in safeguarding our community's health services to support this cause. By signing this petition, you are taking a stand to protect the essential medical services at QEH Hospital in King's Lynn. Your signature is a powerful statement that we value our local healthcare system and will fight to preserve it for current and future generations. Please sign the petition and share it widely to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining full services at QEH Hospital. Together, we can make a difference.
