Save Liberty Elementary! Keep Our School Open!
The Issue
We, the parents, guardians, educators, alumni, and community members of Salem, Oregon, ask the Salem-Keizer School Board to stop the proposed closure of Liberty Elementary School.
Liberty is more than a school. It is part of our history, our neighborhood, and our children's future.
A Legacy Worth Protecting
Built in 1908, Liberty Elementary has served generations of students and families. Additions were made in 1978 and 1993, reflecting years of investment in the building. Most recently, in the summer of 2025, a new safety vestibule was added to help keep students and staff even safer. Liberty Road is believed to have been named after the school following the Civil War, reflecting the community's desire for liberty and freedom.
Today, Liberty provides a safe, welcoming environment where children learn, grow, and build lasting friendships. Our dedicated teachers and staff create a supportive community where students can thrive and families feel connected.
We understand the district faces financial challenges, but our children are more than numbers in a budget. Before closing a school with such deep roots, every reasonable alternative should be explored, and families deserve transparency and a meaningful voice in this decision.
LIBERTY IS WORTH FIGHTING FOR!
We ask the Salem-Keizer School Board to reconsider the proposed closure, fully explore alternatives, and protect Liberty for the children and families who depend on it.
Please hear our voices. Protect our school. Keep Liberty open.
PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION TO SAVE LIBERTY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!
