Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of living in Waltham Forest, witnessing its unique evolution, particularly in areas like Leyton and Walthamstow. However, it feels as if the rapid development hasn’t been as considerate of the longstanding community as it should be. Growth can indeed be positive, but the benefits must also include those who’ve called this place home for decades.

Leyton Mills is more than just a potential site for redevelopment; it serves as a vital hub for affordable shopping, convenient parking, and access to essential needs. It's a cornerstone for many local residents. While we welcome sensible investment and are open to the idea of new homes, the transformation of this area cannot overlook the needs and voices of the existing community.

Regeneration should be a balanced approach that enhances life for both new and current residents. However, the proposals on the table threaten to marginalize long-term residents, making daily life more difficult by potentially removing crucial services and infrastructure. It’s imperative that redevelopment plans consider improving, rather than replacing, what so many have built their lives around.

We are calling on Waltham Forest Council, landowners, and developers to carefully reconsider the current plans for Leyton Mills. We demand that any redevelopment scheme incorporate affordable spaces, preserve essential services like parking, and ensure that the infrastructure meets the community’s needs as it grows.
