The Issue

Update: I  have been informed Snow White can keep their signage!! Thank you to everyone who has helped make this happen! Without your signatures and shares this could not have happened!

Please note: You DO NOT have to donate, just share! The money does not go to Snow White. If you wish to do something go in and support the business! Share the petition!

Update: Councilor Joey Carmack has reached out and expressed that he was not aware this ordinance impacted Snow White and the signage.  He has assured us that he will work on the matter in hopes of finding a resolution. He has been the only council member to reach out at this !

Growing up in Lebanon, Tennessee, the Snow White Drive-In was more than just a diner; it was a gathering place where memories were made. Many locals, like myself, can recall their first date under the glow of its nostalgic neon signs, sharing ice cream on hot summer days, and enjoying hearty meals with family at this beloved restaurant. It stands as a testament to our town's rich history and community spirit.

Unfortunately, our cherished Snow White Drive-In is under threat due to a new city ordinance demanding the removal of its historic neon signs. These signs are not just advertisements; they are emblematic of a bygone era and hold sentimental value to countless residents. Removing them would erase an essential piece of Lebanon's cultural heritage and leave a void that cannot be filled.

Such changes undermine the unique character of our town, which is deeply rooted in history and nostalgia. According to studies, preserving historical sites not only boosts local tourism but also fosters a sense of pride among community members. Therefore, keeping these neon signs is not just about preserving a piece of the past; it's about maintaining the identity of Lebanon, TN.

We propose that the city reconsider this ordinance and work towards a solution that respects the importance of heritage icons like the Snow White Drive-In’s neon signs. Perhaps a special historical designation could be applied, allowing the signs to remain and be celebrated for their cultural significance.

Now is the time to stand together and show the city council the value these signs bring to our community. We must convince them to amend the ordinance to protect our shared history.

Help us save the Snow White Drive-In's neon signs by signing this petition. Protect the legacy of Lebanon, Tennessee for future generations to cherish just as we have. Sign now and make your voice heard!

Responded
A Note from the Civic Engagement Team: Change.org provides a tool that allows petition starters and supporters to email decision makers directly from our platform. The following response from Mayor Rick Bell was sent in reply to one of these emails in support of the petition: The ordinance sponsored by Councilor Burdine had a goal of getting neon and LED lights out of the windows of liquor stores and vape shops. However, certain businesses cannot legally be singled out. It had to be applied to all businesses. I spoke with Snow White folks yesterday and am working on a potential solution this morning. Thank You, Rick
