We, the undersigned residents of Brookline, Larz Anderson Park neighbors, and other Park users and interested parties, hereby call urgently upon the Town of Brookline’s Department of Public Works and Park and Recreation Commission:

To immediately adjust and realign any and all proposed skating rink initiatives at Larz Anderson Park to preserve and maintain the existing Jack Kirrane open air outdoor skating rink and ensure the availability of public skating in Brookline this winter, and hereafter, at the Jack Kirrane Skating Rink.  

The historic Jack Kirrane Skating Rink is a town jewel that has joined generations of skaters of all ages, abilities and backgrounds with the scenic natural beauty of Larz Anderson Park, a National and State Historic Registered property. Fifteen thousand annual visitors enjoy the Rink for recreation, exercise, competition, emotional wellbeing, and a connection to nature. To that end we request that the Department of Public Works and Park and Recreation Commission undertake the following:

1. Prioritize the stabilization and preservation of the Rink, including all structures, walls, architectural elements, sculptures and buildings that have fallen into disrepair due to neglect.*
2. Begin the deferred upkeep of the buildings and grounds surrounding the Rink and the historic structures nearby in consultation with the Town’s Preservation and Conservation Commissions to address needed repairs and conservation of the Rink and surrounding areas. 
3. Commit to the proper maintenance of the Rink and all historic buildings/architectural elements, trees and green spaces in the areas of the Park surrounding the Rink.
4. Identify funding sources for a full restoration and improvement study for the existing historic site and Rink with an eye to historic walls, reclamation the green spaces behind the walls and the return of historic structures to uses supportive of the above.  

THIS MUST NOT BE DELAYED ANY LONGER. The long delay has allowed the condition of the Rink and surrounding areas to deteriorate significantly. 

AS MANY SIGNATURES AS POSSIBLE are needed to send the Town the message that walking away from preserving Larz Anderson Park is not an option!
