Open Space in Falls Township is in danger.  Falls Twp has far too little Open Space and a plan that would never be considered in Middle or Upper Bucks is now on the table in Falls thanks to Bucks County Commissioners, developers and business. The YMCA is planning on building a 55,000 square foot complex next to the Oxford Valley Park Pool. This would entail developing county-owned park land at the corner of Hood and South Olds Blvds. The YMCA also wants to take over the operation of the Oxford Valley pool and has plans for the lake.

This area is currently designated Open Space for preservation and not zoned for commercial use..  Bucks County Commissioners seem more than willing to hand over our Open Space and needed parks. The current easement states that the sites should be "primarily" used for "wildlife refuge, sanctuary, open space, recreational, historical, cultural or natural resource conservation purposes."

To do this, Falls Supervisors have to approve zoning changes from Open Space to commercial use.  Does anyone really want this?  A quick tour of Falls (on this side of Rt.1) is quickly resembling North East Philly with an overabundance of strip malls, banks and pharmacies on every corner.

It is imperative that Falls fights to protect Open Space and encourage re-purposing of abandoned stores and strip mall space. Instead of trees and parks, we are slowly becoming surrounded by concrete and retail stores.  We need to stand up for the future of Falls - all of Falls Township.  We need to be good stewards of this, the first Township in the county, and protect the historical significance and beauty.

Falls Township Residents, please sign this petition to encourage our Supervisors to keep the zoning of this Preserved Open Space and encourage businesses towards responsible development.
