Many families who have lost everything in the fire in Lahaina have been desperately waiting over a week to hear if their pets made it out alive. These pets may be the only things that many of these families have left. 

As of 8/16 The Emergency Operations Center is banning animal rescue groups from helping Lahaina’s animal fire victims until the public is cleared to return, which could take a long time. Before 8/16 access for animal rescuers was extremely limited.

There have been eyewitness accounts of over 500 live animals in Lahaina since the fire.  Some of these animals survived the fires in storm drains and are still stuck there. Other animals are stuck inside housing that did not burn. Many are on the streets for the first time. 

Every day that passes is another day that these animals don’t have the care, food, and water they so desperately need. 

Please stand up for Lahaina’s animals and urge government officials to allow for professional animal rescuers, with proper safety equipment, to have access to Lahaina.

These animal fire victims deserve a chance at life, and Lahaina’s families deserve to potentially be reunited with their furry family members.
