The Issue

I'm the owner of a small restaurant in our cherished community, a place where many locals gather to voice their concerns about the future of Kitty Stuart Park. Despite never having visited the park myself, I've become the voice for many too afraid to speak out. The fear isn't unfounded—there's a tangible sense of anxiety about city retaliation and permit denials, especially given the fragile state of our community.

For nearly two years, our neighbors have faced an unprecedented struggle to rebuild their lives. Many are stuck paying a mortgage on homes they can't live in while also covering rent elsewhere. Yet, amidst these personal battles, there's been a looming proposal to transform Kitty Stuart Park—a beloved green space—into a parking lot, restroom facility, and drive-thru for a restaurant. This change threatens not only the park’s existence but also the essential piece of community cohesion and natural beauty it represents.

Kitty Stuart Park is more than just grass and benches; it’s a vital respite for families, children, and local wildlife. Its transformation into commercial space could strip away a precious recreational area that contributes to the physical and mental well-being of our citizens.

Instead of replacing it with concrete, I propose enhancing the park, preserving its role as a community haven. This could include improving amenities such as play areas, picnic spots, and walking paths, ensuring it remains a vibrant and safe environment for everyone.

This petition calls upon State Officials, to protect Kitty Stuart Park from development. Let's explore alternative locations for commercial expansion that would preserve our natural landscapes and promote sustainable growth. We need a developmental strategy that doesn't prioritize short-term gains over long-term community values and environmental stewardship.

Let’s use our collective voice to ensure that this vital green space remains untouched for future generations. Please add your signature to this petition and stand with us to protect our park.
