Please Help Us Save Blackshots Field and Honour King George V's Promise of Land to The People of Thurrock

Our green space is at risk if we don't Take Urgent Action Now. We have until the end of October 2024 to prevent the loss of the tennis courts, trees and hedges, which are home to local wildlife, with a large chunk of Blackshots Field (KGV) being covered in concrete, used for housing development and hundreds of car park spaces.

Over decades, this precious land has hosted countless community activities, events, and has become a symbol of unity and togetherness. We believe King George V would be proud of how we continue to make good use of and enjoy Blackshots Field. We appreciate his generous promise of land for the enjoyment of future generations of Thurrock Residents.

Always busy, we enjoy the space for playing football, walking our dogs, organised sporting events, watching our children run and play, learning to ride a bike, playing tennis, meeting friends, flying kites, having picnics, keeping fit, to get fresh air, to enjoy nature, to sit and read under a tree in the shade, or to see a friendly face and meet other people when we are feeling lonely..

As a Psychotherapist, I witness first hand the stresses and strains that navigating our modern world has on us. Many of us working from home, behind screens with little face to face contact. Children and Young people more restricted than ever living more sedentary lives. I often 'prescribe' time outside in nature as a vital part of Self Care. As well as King George V's Blackshots Field being easily accessible for all ages and abilities, it is local, a lovely place to walk, breathe, enjoy the wildlife and clear your mind and…it’s free..

I feel passionate about access to green spaces for all and have great respect for King George V's insight in ensuring, with his careful use of language, in 1938, that the land he gave was to be 'Preserved in Perpetuity' to the people of Thurrock.

The loss of this public space would undeniably negatively impact the lives of people in Thurrock and the future generations for whom this space was entrusted to.

Let's stand together in protecting our field, as a tribute to the legacy of King George V
