Today, cars were not stopping to let child pedestrians pass; so I entered crosswalk in hopes to stop traffic for the kids to cross.  This woman in the mini van completely disregarded my existence in the crosswalk, and proceeded through the crosswalk even though I was halfway through it.  After she failed to yield to me, kids told me she gave me the middle finger.

While Appleton Area School District, Appleton Police Department and the City of Appleton were hosting a brunch to celebrate the AASD crossing guards (employees of the company out of California that Appleton contracted with to hire and manage crossing guards for AASD) the school zone was plagued with reckless drivers and not being monitored by law enforcement.  

The crossing guards ABSOLUTELY deserve to be honored and respected.  However, I can't help but wonder how the students and parents are being honored and respected when the school district, the city and the police department knows about this dangerous intersection and the safety issues surrounding it, and have chosen to do little to improve it.  

Please share this petition that I will be taking to Mayor Woodford at the end of the school year with my information and the reports from other sources.
