Save Kennedy Park’s unique WWII history.

Save Kennedy Park’s unique WWII history.
The issue
We’ve all heard about Auckland Council’s budget shortfall and the cuts proposed to assets and services across the city in order to save money.
What you may not have heard is that as part of its cost-saving measures, the Council is considering permanently closing and / or demolishing both the historic WWII tunnels and the barracks house at 139 Beach Road, located at Kennedy Park in Castor Bay.
In fact the Council and Devonport-Takapuna Local Board (DTLB), are guilty of demolition by neglect. Not only have we observed many years of letting these officially recognised heritage features fall into disrepair, we’re now facing the prospect of losing them forever.
The clear impression is Council does not value this important slice of North Shore and NZ history – and once it’s gone, it can never be brought back.
As passionate locals, Castor Bay Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association (CBRRA) and the Kennedy Park WWII Trust won’t stand by quietly and let this happen. As someone with an interest in Kennedy Park, we’d love your support too!
