Save Kendall Headstart Program
Save Kendall Headstart Program
The Issue
I was informed tonight that Kendall Head start is closing. After 20 years. This program specifically the teachers that have impacted children and families for the past 20 years, the directors of Head Start made this decision the people that voted had no ties to the Kendall community at all. I was alarmed for the reasoning behind it. I am asking for the community to come together and fight to keep this program at Kendall since this has made an overwhelmingly positive impact on the families and the community. I am cochair person for the policy counsel meetings and I fought very hard and they are allowing the families to meet with them at the school sometime next week, as soon as I know I will let this page know. I hope we as a strong community can come together and support this program! Thank you all for taking the time to read this.- Clancy Gaddy.

Concern from parent of students, past present and future are rolling in. We will share them below. ——-
“The closing of the Headstart program in Kendall is such a tremendous loss. This program changed the course of not only Ella’s future, but Jacob’s as well. This program was there for Ella when the service supports she needed were not. My children’s education aside, we also met so many wonderful people. Ella remains close with kids she started the program with in January 2019. I can’t imagine our lives without these relationships or the opportunity to have been part of this program. I am so devastated for the teachers and staff, along with the kids who desperately need this program and the support it provides. “ Chelsea Winkler
“I’m thankful my son got to go ! Such a great program sad to see it go.” Tara Marie Roper
“My son Conner was in head start and they did amazing with him. If it was not for them I would not have known where do go and what to do with all his disability.
He was diagnosed with Intellectual disability. ADHD and other things but head start never gave up on my kid never told he was not welcome never treated him differently. He still talks about Ann and he 7 now. And for a younger child to remember a teacher tells me what a great impact headset had on him…
I will be there to help fight for head start. The kids deserve to have them.” Ashley Guadagno
“My 23yr old son attended head start at kendall. This is so sad. This program is needed here. It's an amazing program to help our babies be ready for kindergarten. I see a huge difference in my kids that didn't attend head start or any preschool, versus my kids that did. School was so much easier and smoother for my babies. It helps kids with anxiety, learning disabilities and speech delays are picked up sooner. It's helps single parents, who can't afford daycare be able to work so they can provide for their children. Losing this program is extremely detrimental to our kids and this community. “ Stacy DeRoller
“The Head start program is an asset to our school and community. Many children have benefited from this program over the years. Both of my boys ages 17 and 20 attended the Kendall program. Both benefited hugely from the program. From the socal aspect , the therapies available to learning colors and writing thier name it definitely gave my sons the headstart they needed. Both of my sons are high honor roll students and very successful young men. It would be ashame for other children in our community to not have the same opportunity. I encourage you to reconsider closing this program in Kendall. All children deserve a head start.” Kristen Marie
“I had the opportunity to work at headstart two school years as a substitute and my son was blessed to go there.
Having that program allowed me to get him the speech service he needed. He did wonderful after attending headstart. Speech services corrected his speech.
It was a pleasure to work there as well. Kendall headstart is unique to the community it serves. It would be detrimental to the school to have that program taken away.“- Della Buzard
”I’m also a full time college student. Head start not only helps Elijah and working on the delays he has, but allows me to have some time to get a degree to help better my families income.
“We only have one car right now. And don’t always have reliable access to one. So we wouldn’t be able to put him in Albion head start even if we wanted to. And I have had my previous kids in Kendall upk, they both have had some issue, whereas Elijah is always excited to go to class.“ Kayla Bissell
“We love the Head Start program and it would be an immense disservice to the Kendall community to not have it anymore. If it weren’t for the Head Start program we wouldn’t have found our son’s hearing loss as early as we did! It allowed us to get him evaluated and get hearing aids. Calum loved going to school every day and I knew I was sending him into loving arms each day. He learned so many necessary social skills he wouldn’t have learned at home with me. I also enjoyed participating in the parent group and the policy council. Kendall NEEDS the Head Start program!” Fallon Nardi
