Two bald eagle chicks just hatched in the nest of Jackie and Shadow, a pair of eagles that millions of people have watched live online for years in Big Bear Valley, California.

Their home is now in danger.

Less than a mile from the nest sits a nearly 63-acre stretch of land called Moon Camp, and a developer wants to build houses and a marina there.

The San Bernardino Land Trust has a rare chance to buy Moon Camp and protect it forever instead, but the option won't last. The Land Trust needs to raise $10 million by July 31, 2026, and so far supporters have only reached about $1.7 million. If the deadline passes without enough support, construction could begin just steps from where Jackie, Shadow, and their new eaglets are raising their family.

Bald eagles were once nearly wiped out across the country, and safe nesting grounds like this one are still essential to keeping them protected. Sign the petition urging San Bernardino County officials and Moon Camp's property owners to give the Land Trust the chance to complete this purchase — before the July 31 deadline passes and this eagle family loses its home for good.
