The Issue

IPA (Islington Play Association) has been more than just an organisation for 55 years; it’s been a lifeline for families and children, enhancing their lives through its Adventure Playgrounds (MLK, Crumbles Castle, Lumpy Hill, Timbuktu and Toffee Park) and Paradise Park Children’s Centre. These facilities provide safe, supervised spaces where children not only build confidence, stay active, but also learn the importance of community and friendship.

IPA is an essential part of our lives in this community. Closing it would mean depriving local children, families, and the broader community of a key resource. For many children — especially those living in flats without gardens or a safe outdoor space — IPA is a crucial place where they can play freely and safely after school and throughout the holidays.

A multitude of families rely on IPA to help their children develop independence and social skills. It has played a pivotal role for decades in supporting working parents by providing a reliable environment where their children can engage in healthy and constructive activities.

Let's not forget the memories built here and the positive impact on child development, which is well-documented. According to multiple studies, play is an essential part of children's growth, stimulating emotional health, creativity, and learning. The loss of IPA’s services would significantly affect the children’s right to play and learn in a dedicated environment.

We must act now to save this cherished organisation from closure. The implications of shutting down IPA are wide-reaching - from a decline in community cohesion to a loss of developmental opportunities for young ones.

Please sign this petition to urge local authorities, Senior Management and Trustees to preserve IPA. Together, we can ensure that future generations continue to benefit from the strong foundation it provides to our community's children and families.
