The tug of war game in the Iowa legislature continues. We urge you to reach out to your State Senator and the Senate leadership immediately as a vote may come up this week on Senate Bill 2293, which eliminates the mandate in the Iowa Code for keeping the Centennial Building open in Iowa City. https://www.legis.iowa.gov/legislators/find
If passed in the Senate, the bill will move to the House for consideration. We cannot predict when the issue will be debated in the House or how soon a version of the Senate bill will be voted on. The proposed change to the Iowa Code would be enacted upon passage.
Please take a moment right now and send a short and polite note to your legislators and the majority leadership in the House and Senate requesting a further investigation into the issues. Ask them to please Vote “NO” on Senate File 2293
Iowa law is clear, there is to be a historical resource research center in Iowa City and Des Moines. The closure of the Iowa City center is currently the subject of legal action, so please allow the courts to rule before changing the Code.
Please counter the arguments used to justify this closure as their reasoning is based on misinformation and a lack of understanding of why citizens are concerned.
We continue to dispute the narrative generated by DAS and SHSI Administrators and encourage you to study the Fact Sheet offering details behind the stories they spread.
Thank you to everyone for your steadfast support. Please refer to our website for specific details that need to be presented to decision makers before they vote. https://saveiowahistory.org
