Over a year ago, you supported my petition to get Dangerous Jeeps off the road before more people die in fires. We managed to get the attention of Chrysler and top government officials and a "recall" negotiated. Albeit unsatisfactory to most safety advocates, at least something would be done. At least dangerous Jeep owners would be notified of the increased risk of fire in their vehicle. NOT. Chrysler, NHTSA, and US DOT have wasted over a year barely doing anything to even inform the public of this danger. During that time, just after the "deal" was made, the head of NHTSA went to work for a ProChrysler law firm! Also during that time, a bright young teenager, Skyler Coughlin-Anderson, drove his family's Jeep regularly, including to his death on November 10, 2013. When interviewed by the press, Skyler's father sadly stated if he had only known that his Jeep was prone to fire... In a memorial service for Skyler, his mother stated that Skyler would want everyone to try their best to be responsible and to be safe. After agreeing to the recall in June 2013, at the very least, these Jeep owners should have known but the endless stall tactics by Chrysler, NHTSA, and US DOT prevented him from knowing anything. Let's honor what Skyler would've wanted and encourage other corporate executives to be responsible by arresting those who weren't. Please let Skyler's gruesome fiery death be the last!
