We are asking the Olathe Public Schools Board of Education to reconsider the proposed closure of Indian Trail Middle School.

Indian Trail is home to 580+ students and nearly 85 educators and staff, along with 16 activities, clubs and sports and students representing 25 languages.

But Indian Trail is more than numbers.

It is a community.

It is a place where students are known, supported, challenged, and cared for. It is a place where educators have spent years building relationships with our children and creating a school culture that families have come to value.

We recognize that Olathe Public Schools is facing difficult enrollment and financial challenges, and we appreciate that the district has stated that staff will continue serving students within the district.

But staff continuing elsewhere does not mean the Indian Trail community simply moves with them.

The relationships, traditions, culture, and sense of belonging that have been built at Indian Trail over the years cannot be recreated overnight.

Moving hundreds of students into other schools may also mean larger student populations and classrooms, potentially making it more difficult for educators to provide the same level of individualized attention and connection.

Our children are more than enrollment numbers.

Our educators are more than staffing positions.

And Indian Trail is more than a building.

It is a community worth preserving.

We are asking the Board to look beyond the financial savings and consider the full impact of closing Indian Trail on our students, families, educators, and community.

Please help us ask the Board to find another path and keep Indian Trail Middle School open.
