Hyrcanian Forests Burning for 20+ Days: Immediate UNESCO “Danger List” Protection Now Essential to Save This Ancient Global Heritage
The Hyrcanian Forests of Iran—one of the planet’s oldest surviving ecosystems—have been burning uncontrollably for more than 20 days, placing 25–50-million-year-old habitats at imminent risk of collapse. Environmental experts warn that the continued fires are destroying endemic species, fragmenting irreplaceable ecosystems, and causing irreversible damage to one of humanity’s most ancient natural treasures.

Despite the severity of the crisis, the UNESCO Office in Iran has issued no public statement, activated no emergency measures, and provided no visible response.

Independent environmental specialists across the MENA region, together with civil society groups in Mazandaran, now insist that UNESCO must immediately:

Activate Reactive Monitoring,
Deploy an emergency assessment mission, and
Officially inscribe the Hyrcanian Forests on the World Heritage in Danger List—without delay.
Placing the site under Danger Listing is the only available mechanism that obligates international monitoring, mobilises global assistance, and applies necessary pressure on authorities to prevent further destruction.

“This forest is not just Iranian—it is a living archive of the Earth’s natural history. Every hour of silence deepens the loss. UNESCO must act now—before this ancient global heritage disappears.”

A worldwide petition has now been launched to mobilise public and international support for immediate action.

آتش‌سوزی ۲۰+ روزه در جنگل‌های هیرکانی: درخواست فوری برای قرار دادن این میراث جهانی در «فهرست میراث در خطر»

جنگل‌های هیرکانی ایران — یکی از آخرین اکوسیستم‌های باستانی باقی‌مانده روی زمین — بیش از ۲۰ روز است که به‌صورت مهارنشده در حال سوختن هستند. این آتش‌سوزی‌ها در حال نابود کردن زیست‌بوم‌های ۲۵ تا ۵۰ میلیون ساله، گونه‌های بومی و ارزشمند، و یکی از مهم‌ترین ذخایر تنوع زیستی جهان هستند.

با وجود شدت فاجعه، دفتر یونسکو در ایران هیچ بیانیه‌ای صادر نکرده، هیچ اقدام اضطراری انجام نداده و هیچ واکنشی به این تخریب گسترده نشان نداده است.

کارشناسان محیط‌زیست در منطقهٔ خاورمیانه و شمال آفریقا (MENA) و فعالان مدنی در استان مازندران فوراً از یونسکو می‌خواهند که:

پایش واکنشی را فوراً فعال کند،
یک هیئت ارزیابی اضطراری اعزام کند،
و جنگل‌های هیرکانی را بدون هیچ‌گونه تأخیر در فهرست میراث جهانی در خطر قرار دهد.
هیچ اقدام دیگری کافی نیست.
هر روز — و هر ساعت — تأخیر به معنای نابودی دائمی جنگلی است که جایگزینی برای آن وجود ندارد.

یونسکو باید اکنون اقدام کند تا از فروپاشی این میراث طبیعی باستانی جلوگیری شود.

یک کارزار جهانی برای فشار عمومی و درخواست مداخله فوری آغاز شده است.
