Save the animals! The Mayagüez Zoo in Puerto Rico has been closed for more than four years due to repeated and serious violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act. The violations include lack of licenses by veterinary personnel, it did not have a protocol to attend emergencies or fires, negligence, mistreatment and death of animals, among many others. For this reason, the Unites States Department of Agriculture canceled the zoo's exhibition license. The zoo also lost permits required by the US Department of Natural Resources for handling animals. Those animals still there. A bear just died the past recent days. They live in deplorable conditions.  Therefore, we ask to order the immediate transfer of the animals to sanctuaries where they can have a dignified life and not living in captivity without adequate attention.
