Gouin-Lawrence-Graber House - Demolished

SORRY TO SAY, the Town of Hempstead did not heed our request to landmark the Gouin-Lawrence-Graber House and follow their own campaign to "SAVE OUR SUBURBS". As previously stated, after the initial arbitrary denial, we appealed to the Landmarks Preservation Commission with additional evidence and the support of New York State experts (to no avail). And then tried to appeal to the Town Board who did not respond to us. Numerous attempts were made in writing and by phone...
TODAY, the Gouin-Lawrence-Graber House was DEMOLISHED. And two new houses will be built in its place. The real estate listing for the two houses is already up. Initial asking price is $1,388,000. Power and greed drive our society today. And, our community history and character are forever gone.
Thank you to those who supported this petition. We did our best to preserve our local history and its value to the community. The Town of Hempstead did not respond let alone support our community. This might be something to consider in the local elections this November. We need representatives who will listen to community voices and consider the history and integrity of our communities.
