Hello all - Dal has been asked, but no response provided to date, as to their plans for 1245 Edward Street, now designated as a heritage property in Halifax. They've removed the temporary electrical hookup that they tried to run from their Glengarry apartment building next door (until issued two stop work orders by HRM), and workers have been observed raking up leaves on the property, sidewalk and lawn in front of the house.
What do they intend to do this winter? The house has no heat, lights or running water. And what did they do with the heritage elements they removed, like all the interior original doors, mouldings, radiators, fireplace elements, etc? Dal is silent on all of this.
Recently while browsing through a British magazine I was struck with the similarities in design with this old Manor house's front entrance, right down to the mirror where it used to hang on 1245 Edward. The first picture is 1245 Edward the day before Dal took possession, the manor house pic is below, and the third picture is the demolished interior, one year after the university took ownership of the property.
It's strange that a university would spend one million dollars on a historic house, only in order to demolish it, likely hundreds of thousands to demolish the interior, lawyer's fees, etc. and not make any efforts towards using a very viable home for housing, offices, something. What are they holding out for? Please continue to press Dal's Board of Governors, and President Deep Saini about this, and thanks for caring and sharing.
