Save Hill Memorial at Ohio Northern University

Save Hill Memorial at Ohio Northern University
The Issue
The future of Hill Memorial, one of Ohio Northern's and Ada's oldest buildings, is in jeopardy. There are plans from ONU's administration to destroy an iconic, beautiful, and historical building with almost no communication with students, faculty, or alumni. This must be stopped.
Hill memorial is not only an icon of Ohio Northern and the most instantly recognizable building on campus, but it also has a deep history intertwined with almost every department or organization on campus. It bears the name of John Wesley Hill, one of ONU's most successful alumni and one of its strongest ties to the Methodist Church. Hill currently contains the History, Political Science, and Geography departments. These three departments not only have an excellent collection of faculty and have educated thousands of students, but they also punch well above their relatively small size. Many student senate presidents have come from the Political Science Department and dozens of community and campus outreach programs have started in Hill's classrooms and offices.
Hill's destruction would mean a massive cultural emblem for the local community and university being destroyed. The last major piece of ONU's founding era would be gone, like so much of the heritage before it. The campus and the town of Ada will be lesser for its loss and the departments in Hill will be thrown in disarray for years to come.
History deserves to be kept standing and so does Hill Memorial.
