On July 1, 2022, New York State Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation stating firearms could not be carried in "sensitive locations." "Sensitive locations" include all sporting events.

During debate, the Assembly sponsor, Assembly Member Dinowitz was asked about high school trap shooting competitions at sportsman's clubs. He said that this would be covered under the "sensitive location" definition.

This means that it would be illegal for anyone, including high school trap team competitors, to possess any firearm, including shotguns, at sportsman's clubs.
