Save Hesaraghatta Grasslands - Declare complete 5000 acre conserve reserve

The Issue

Respected Chief Minister,

This is our appeal to the Chief Minister and the Government of Karnataka to declare the complete 5010 acres of the Hesaraghatta grassland as a conservation reserve. This area is the only surviving grassland of Bengaluru and serves as a feeding/breeding ground to several animals in the surrounding areas.

Hesaraghatta is home to several species of flora and fauna many of which are endangered today. In addition several migratory birds visit this grassland every single year. The large, serene Hesaraghatta lake is a popular watering hole since it attracts several species of fauna to it.

The grassland surrounding the lakebed supports unique biodiversity. Hesaraghatta, with its large biodiversity lies at the border of Bengaluru occupying a pride of place in the hearts of the people of Karnataka. Let there be no confusion in anyone’s mind that the earth belongs to the plants, birds and animals as much as to us.

Protecting the Hesaraghatta grassland will only serve to reiterate Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement that when nature and environment are protected, the future for growth becomes secure and the avenues for growth and prosperity will automatically open up.

We appeal to the Government to uphold India's belief in the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam in treating the world as one and allowing all living beings to live peacefully in their own habitat.
