The US House of representatives just passed a funding bill that would decimate Head Start, cut 220,000 at-risk children and their families from vital services, cut 55,000 Head Start teachers and staff, and leave 16,000 classrooms empty.

Head Start is a national commitment to provide opportunities for all children, regardless of circumstances at birth, to succeed in school and in life. It has a proven track record of getting children ready for school, lowering school drop out rates, improving high school graduation and college enrollment rates, improving health and reducing crime. Individuals, families and communities benefit from this early intervention.    Nobel prize-winning economist James Heckman  recommends "Early Head Start and Head Start are programs to improve and build on - not to cut"

Urge the Senate not to allow these cuts to stand, sacrificing the future of children and killing jobs.
