The Issue

The Hazel Grove Civic Hall holds a special place in our community. For many years, it has been the beating heart of Hazel Grove, hosting countless events, gatherings, and activities that bring us together. It's where we celebrate our town’s history, support local charities, and nurture community spirit. Unfortunately, the Civic Hall has been closed due to structural issues with the building's fabric, leaving a significant void in our communal life.

The closure of the Civic Hall is not just a loss of a building but a loss of our cultural and social hub.  The groups that use it are only temporarily re-housed and would like to return as soon as possible. The scaffolding that has been up for around two years makes the building look awful and adds to the decline of the appearance of Hazel Grove.

Addressing the structural problems is not just necessary, but vital. It’s important that the Hazel Grove Civic Hall is restored and reopened. To achieve this, I am calling on the Stockport Council to prioritize the funds and resources needed to evaluate the necessary repairs and bring the hall up to modern standards.

According to recent reports, the necessary repairs would not only make the building safe and sound but also more sustainable and accessible, ensuring it serves future generations. Investing in the Civic Hall is investing in Hazel Grove's future, promoting local economy, and improving our quality of life.

We ask for a transparent action plan from the Council, detailing the steps and timeline for the renovations. This way, we can hold them accountable and assist with community support in any way possible.

We ask that the council publish all structural survey results and cost options for repairing the building immediately.

Commit to a clear, funded restoration with fixed milestones for repair and reopening.

Guarantee the building's future in public/community ownership and protect it against commercial disposal.

By signing this petition, you are voicing the collective desire to preserve an essential part of Hazel Grove’s identity. Together, we can urge the decision-makers to act swiftly and decisively to save our beloved Civic Hall. Please sign and make a difference for our community.
