Thank you to everyone who signed the petition regarding the Civic Hall. The report was that the whole front face needs to be taken down and rebuilt which also involves removing the roof (well at least the front part). The cost so far is £75000 for survey and scaffold hire, a cost which is ongoing. I agree with what a few people said last night , which was it may be cheaper to demolish and rebuild it with the benefit of modern building standards. The agenda last night was largely to do with the many housing developments that are going on around Hazel Grove, namely the Mirrlees site, Jackson Lane and Offerton. From a personal point of view and on reflection, I think the Civic Hall and the state of it has become a symbol of decline in the area. The ruination of the building no doubt aided by the heavy traffic on the A6 while we see the decline of the Hazel Grove A6 corridor with tatty shops and HMO's popping up in what uses to be banks and offices is more than alarming. While this change and loss of green belt is going at a staggering pace we look at one of the only buildings that reminds me of how Hazel Grove used to be and covered in scaffolding and looks like it's going to be abandoned like Torkington Park Lodge has been. One positive thing that came out of last night's meeting was following a complaint; that information from the council has been woeful and assurances were given that this would improve. I really don't have the knowledge to say why so much money is being spent in Stockport Centre while towns and villages on the periphery don't but I again suspect it driven by the money of developers. We will see what happens but I fear it's going to be a long time.
