Save Harris County Euthanize List Dogs!!!!

The Issue

Please help us fight for change around the Harris County Euthanize list dogs!!!! I wrote this email to Harris County Shelter in Houston Texas. I sent to  the Shelter Director and Commissioner begging for 2 more days after all we have done. This needs to STOP! The more dogs the volunteers save, the more the shelter adds. The shelter and higher ups do not care about these dogs. It’s the volunteers saving them; and they still won’t work with us. 3 dogs died today because they grew the list to where we couldn’t possibly save them all after saving them all for 3 weeks!

Good morning!

I write to you in regards to the 13 dogs that are left on the euth list at Harris County Shelter for 5pm today. In the past 3 weeks, I have formed a social media network of 13k followers and counting to help save the euth dogs off Harris counties list. We have since saved ALL the dogs on these lists (over 50 dogs!)
People have driven from all over the country to adopt these dogs, including Nebraska and Massachusetts.

The issue and reason for me writing is, they just keep adding more. And we NEED an extension on the list for today until Monday to continue to save them all. Harris County Shelter has not had to kill ANY dogs in two and half weeks. And these dogs are even going to great homes out of state, which helps with the Texas dog population problem.

The first list two weeks ago had 18 dogs on it. We saved them ALL. Then the shelter said they were going to do two lists a week. They gave us one on Monday last week with a deadline of Wednesday at 5pm with 18 dogs on it! We again, saved them all. Then on Wednesday before we could even breathe and celebrate, they gave us 9 more dogs with a deadline of last Friday at 5pm. We again saved them all!

This week, they have two lists again, but with 15 dogs in each list (it just keeps growing, like we are being punished for saving these dogs). We saved the first 15 that were set to die on Wednesday. Now we have 13 from the new list that came out Wednesday that will die at 5pm today if an extension is not granted until Monday. I plead you to extend this.

We also ask that these dogs are spayed/neutered prior to them going on these lists. With this new network, people are driving overnight to adopt since they only give us a little over 48 hours per list.

These numbers look amazing for the city and shelter to have not killed these dogs the past 3 weeks, but it is truly the army of volunteers like myself that are fighting to save them. We will continue to grow this network, and have many celebrities on this fight to save them. This would be devastating to lose these 13 because the shelter keeps growing these lists as we save them all. Granting us the weekend until Monday’s list comes out will allow people to meet the dogs that cannot make it during the week for the adoption hours of 1-530 that the shelter gives. I do not believe asking for the weekend extension is an unreasonable request, and I know many others will join my fight in this. BUT we are running out of time, and only have 6 hours left.

Please respond with your thoughts! We want the best for these dogs, and want to help with the Houston dog population problem, and I believe if we partner together, we can do this with less dogs dying, and also get Houston off the map as being a city that doesn’t care about animals.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Laura Brown
