Save Halanayakanahalli Lake Now !
The Issue
SIGN THIS PETITION TO PRESSURE THE KSPCB TO TAKE ACTION AND SAVE THE LAKE. THE LIVES OF SCHOOL CHILDREN AND RESIDENTS IS AT STAKE.
Halanayakanahalli Gram Panchayat, located 1 KM off the Sarjapura Road, lies at the heart of a booming real estate scene at the outskirts of Bengaluru. The village now is host to countless IT professionals, migrant workers and many big schools. This among other localities, is the new and upcoming localities of the Silicon Valley of India.
A BLUE LAKE HAS TURNED GREERN
The Halanayakanahalli Lake/Kere, USED to be BLUE and alive. It has now turned GREEN. If you look at the lake now, it is completely green and the water is not even visible. The WATER IS THERE , but a thick carpet of water hyacinth has settled on the lake's surface. But how does a lake become green?

POLLUTION
This green layer, formed by Water hyacinth is a floating plant that grows very rapidly when a lake receives SEWAGE, household WASTE and FERTILIZER runoff. These pollutants add excess nutrients to the water, acting like a food source for the plant and causing it to multiply uncontrollably. Its excessive growth is a WARNING SIGN of POLLUTION and poor water quality.

IMPACT ON RESIDENTS
If polluted lake water seeps into the ground, it may CONTAMINATE GROUNDWATER used for drinking and household needs. The decaying plants can also cause foul smells, encourage mosquito breeding and harm the lake’s ecosystem, affecting the health and quality of life of surrounding communities.
SIGN THE PETITION
Monitoring pollution levels of the lake and taking necessary action/levying penalties is the job of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB). Please sign this petition so that we can create pressure on the officials at KSPCB to take action on the violators, who are discharging SEWAGE, take action against the Panchayat for not maintaining Garbage collection and ensuring the cleanliness of the Lake overall.
